The 28th Vattenfall BERLIN HALF MARATHON is Making Great Strides

When the starting shot of the Berlin running season rang out at 10:45 a.m. on April 6 on the Palace Bridge in front of the Berlin Cathedral, it was clear that despite the mixed April weather, once again a special and spectacular running event was about to take place in Germany's number one sports metropolis. While 10 years ago there were about 5,000 amateur runners who took off on the 21.0975 km course, the 28th Vattenfall BERLIN HALF MARATHON experienced a fantastic record number of participants (24,551), almost breaking the magical 25,000-mark.
The “Sweet Course” past many of the most famous city sights was lined by over 150,000 spectators, numerous bands, and many other attractions. Many runners use this event to test their level of fitness early in the running season or to try to set their personal bests, others simply want to have fun and make it all the way. When the Kenyan Patrick Makau Musyoki victoriously crossed the finish line in a time of exactly 60:00 min., the last runner in the field had just passed the 8-km mark. This mix of world-class performances, amateur sport, spectacular and entertainment create the attraction of this official season opening, which now belongs to the top five half marathons in the world.

We wish you lots of fun and success training for the 29th Vattenfall BERLIN HALF MARATHON on April 5, 2009. We are looking forward to having you participate.
