Haile shatters own world record in Berlin

Foto Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia shattered his own marathon record in the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON on Sunday morning, running 2:03:59, to become the first man in history under 2:04 for the distance. On a morning that he described as perfect, with sunshine and temperatures rising from 10C (48F) at the 9 a.m. start, to 14C (55F) at the finish, Gebrselassie followed a quartet of Kenyan pacemakers, including Abel Kirui, who had finished second in the race last year. The group of seven passed halfway in 62:04, 25 seconds faster than in 2007. More...

Haile back on world record course

FotoHaile Gebrselassie returns on Sunday morning to the scene of his 25th world record, 2.04.26 in the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON last year. The Ethiopian shows little sign of slowing down, and with a swipe at cyclist Lance Armstrong for daring to retire three years ago (and now planning a comeback), the Ethiopian suggested that he himself might still be running and racing up to the 2016 Olympics, when he would be 43 years of age. Irina Mikitenko – big in Berlin

FotoNothing excites the public more than the prospect of a home winner in the big city marathons that have otherwise become fixtures on the sporting calendar in most countries. And Irina Mikitenko fits the bill big time on Sunday, in the 35th edition of the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON. The fastest marathon debutante in German history, with 2.24.51 when she finished second to the Ethiopian star, Gete Wami in Berlin last year, Mikitenko, now 36 went on to become a surprise winner (2.24.14) of the London Marathon earlier this year, a race in which Wami could only finish third. Seven Finisher Clip cameras are capturing all participants of the 35th real,- BERLIN-MARATHON

FotoThis year, the athletes of the 35th real,- BERLIN-MARATHON are offered a very special service: On race position 10 km, half marathon, 30 km, 35 km and at the finish line, the runners have to smile – because they will be focused by seven cameras. The clips will be available from Tuesday, 30th of September, at www.finisherclip.de. Finishers will only have to enter their names or bib numbers and the video sequences from the different race positions will be shown for free. It is also possible to download the video clips in high definition quality for PC, mobile phone or iPod. The price is only € 9,95 and can be paid per credit card or credit transfer. More...
